Further information:
The Western Indian Ocean Coral Bleaching Monitoring Service uses the Global Ocean OSTIA Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Ice Analysis product from Copernicus Marine Service to provide regionally optimised information on thermal stress risk to coral reefs. This information is displayed on an interactive map, accompanied by coral bleaching alerts and a form for users to report bleaching. The service supports area-based assessment of coral health in East Africa, giving users the tools to monitor satellite-derived thermal stress and duration and assess change in reef health over time using historical monitoring records.
